Do you really care about your success? It seems that everyone wants to be successful in life, but often desire is not strong enough. I believe that successful people take action to be sure they succeed, rather than just hoping or wishing for a lucky break. They believe in themselves and keep focused on their journey, taking one day at a time. It seems that many people hold themselves back in life, by never fully committing to being successful. Perhaps they do not think they are worthy of success and this keeps them from ‘burning the boats’ so that there is no retreat.
Everyone has basic needs in life, such as food and shelter. After that, there are wants, such as cars and fancy houses, which are nice to have but not really needed. It is important to know the difference and to not have an unlimited number of wants. Many people fail to find happiness because they continue to want more and more stuff so they are never satisfied with having what they need. Is success a want or a need for you? If you really care about yourself and have a burning desire to succeed, then success for you has become a need, rather than just something you want. Always remember that your success is linked to the success of others, since you reap what you sow. In the classroom, when you share your ideas with other students this of course helps them, but you also benefit since you check your own understanding. Always provide service to others without expecting something in return, knowing at the same time that to give is to receive! Your care for yourself increases when you care for others.
Often people hold themselves back from finding success, perhaps because they have not decided what success means for them. Write down on paper exactly what your goals for yourself are, since nobody else can decide this for you. The goal of this blog is to teach you how to be successful, but just knowing how to do something is not enough. Often people know what they need to do but still fail to take action to do it. Make sure you are clear on what you intend to do, and why it is important to you. As an example, if you set a goal of winning a race by the end of the year, your next step will probably be to learn about what you need to do to train yourself. It is possible to know everything that you need to do to prepare, but if you don’t really care about winning the race then you will probably fail. So, first make sure you really care about the goals you have set and how to accomplish them will surely follow. If you really care about yourself then you have everything you need to be successful!
Are you making sure to ask yourself what success looks like for you and why it is important to you? Have you written down your goals on paper and are you putting why ahead of how?
