Be Thankful

It seems obvious that living in such a great country like Canada at a time in Earth’s history where we have more luxuries than ever, should make people happier than ever. It seems that most of the time people fill their minds with negative thoughts instead of stopping to think about the things they should be thankful for. I find that remembering to give thanks reminds me to be positive about the things in my life that are going well. Fill your mind with positive thoughts always and you will be energized to take action to get things done and enjoy the challenge too!

I have often found myself reacting negatively when driving my car, when the traffic is busy, and it seems I am not making much progress. I always need to remind myself that some things are out of my control, and I can only control my reaction to the situation. In times like this I need to stop and think about how privileged I am to even have a car in the first place! Only a small fraction of the world drives a car, so getting upset while driving one fails to consider that many people are less fortunate than I am. Indeed, there are many people that do not even have clean drinking water.

William Shakespeare said, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” So, decide that most things are good, and they will be. The number of things that are going well in your life certainly will outnumber the things that are not. Even when things are not going well, keep in mind that obstacles are meant to teach you something if you stop to learn something from them. So, even those things that seem bad can be turned into a positive. Always look for the seed of benefit that comes when you struggle. When learning something new, keep in mind that not knowing how to do it is a good thing as this means you have work to do. Set your mind on figuring out how to do it, believing fully in your ability, so that you are willing to take risks. You can do it if you believe you can and back up your belief with action!

People often spend all the money they have and in fact because of credit cards they spend even more than they have. This possibly comes from not being thankful for what they already have, so that they always want more things. The truth is that happiness comes from inside, when you are truly thankful for what you already have. It has been said that the best things in life aren’t things. People who consider the future and have the discipline to develop the savings habit are much happier. Perhaps because they need not worry about their future because they have taken care of it.

What are you thankful for this holiday season? Have you experienced the happiness that comes from giving to others? Thanks for reading!
